In May of 2021 Pennie and I made the decision to relocate from Canada back to the US. We used the terms Faith, Family and Freedom when people asked us, "Why Texas?" We have three children and 9 grandchildren south of the border and after a very difficult visit in March/April we realized that things were not getting better with the restrictions on travel. Add to this problem masks, vaccines, distancing, peoples fears, animosities, misinformation and future restrictions on cross border vaccine passports and it made sense to us to relocate. Several problems presented but we pushed through anyway. The house in Chatham sold, we scouted out our destination and located a real estate partner who worked with us to find a nice little bungalow in the community we had picked.
Tyler, Texas, in the northeastern part of the state. Wooded, hilly, conservative and far enough from large urban centres to be relaxed. Our diocese is guided by a principled Bishop, Joseph Strickland, who shares many of the values which we hold dear. Our parish is his Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and is only a 10 minute walk from home.
I have included a few pictures of our new home. The one on the right shows our kitchen and looks out to the laundry and the door to the back yard.
